You can opt to access kinesiology services on a private pay basis, either if you do not have access to other sources of funding, or if the reason you are accessing services is not eligible to meet funding criteria.
Why have individuals opted to pay out of pocket for kinesiology services? Here are a few examples:
Can you claim kinesiology services under medical expenses on your income tax?
Yes, you can claim kinesiology under medical expenses on your income tax. Kinesiologists in Ontario are included in the list of "Authorized Medical Practitioners by province or territory for the purposes of claiming medical expenses" on the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) website.
Persons receiving the services of a Registered Kinesiologist in Ontario can claim it as an eligible medical expense on line 331 of a tax return.
Patients/clients can only claim the part of an expense for which they have not been or will not be reimbursed. However, they can claim the full expense if the reimbursement is included in their income, such as a benefit shown on a T4 slip, and they did not deduct the reimbursement anywhere else on their income tax and benefit return.
To provide proof of purchase of services, invoices and receipts equipped with college registration number and a business HST number are issued for your records.
